A slower pace, full hearts, and moments of joy in Cusco

Cusco spread out beneath us — a reminder of God’s beauty in every direction.
This weekend was a much-needed time of rest. After so many busy days in the villages, it felt good to slow down, breathe, and simply enjoy being together. We caught up on laundry — always a small victory on mission trips — and enjoyed relaxing at the hotel.
We also spent some time sightseeing with Fernanda and Yeni. We wandered around Cusco, took in the colours and life of the city, and ended up having a meal at Chili’s again. Familiar food in a familiar spot felt comforting after a week of simple meals and long days.

Later, we went to Pastor Edgar’s church, where we spent the afternoon with some of the children who attend. We made rainbow loom bracelets and butterfly wind chimes, and the kids were absolutely delighted. Their creativity and excitement filled the room — one of those moments where simple crafts become pure joy.

On Sunday, we joined the team and visited Cristo Blanco and Saqsaywaman, taking in the sweeping views over Cusco. The scenery was breathtaking, and sharing it with the people we’ve been serving alongside all week made it even more special. We finished the day with a lovely meal overlooking the city — a peaceful, grateful end to the weekend.
Reflection
This weekend reminded me how important it is to rest — not just the body, but the heart. Between laughter with friends, crafts with children, and quiet moments looking out over Cusco, I felt God’s presence in the pause. These small Sabbath moments prepared us for whatever comes next.
